Leo has been on Xolair for a year now. His allergy doctor wanted to introduce his major allergen to see what, if any, reactions would occur. Leo DID NOT want to do it. It took a while for him to wrap his mind around eating something that he's been told (all of his life) would kill him.
He started with half a Reese's Pieces. No reaction.
He ended up eating a total of 6 Reese's Pieces over a three hour period. He also drank three bottles of water while struggling to swallow. He felt like his throat was closing up but the doctor kept checking and his throat was fine. He didn't have one hive, red spot, no throwing up, his mouth wasn't hot, he wasn't scratching his neck, his lips didn't swell and his throat didn't close up!!!! This is HUGE and means the Xolair is working! This does not mean Leo can now eat peanuts, almonds or other tree nuts, but that he is protected from accidental exposure and relieves a big worry we've had for 13 years.
I had to promise him a new soccer jersey to push through the fear. He chose Erling Haaland's World Cup Norway jersey.
Just for fun I thought I would throw in pics of the first Haaland shirt Leo got. This was on his 11th birthday.
