We visit our local fire station about once a month, always making sure to go when B shift (they helped with Harrison's birthday party tour) is there and always bringing them a little treat (popsicles on this visit). So, we've gotten to know the firefighters pretty well and if there aren't any emergencies, they let the boys do special things like squirt the hose.
On this trip I happened to mention that Harrison was having a hard time staying in his bed all night. The firefighters talked to him about how important it was to get enough rest and told him that if he could stay in his bed all night for a whole week that they would bring the fire truck to our house. We even had to call the station and report. I guess that was the incentive Harrison needed because he did it!
This was the moment that Harrison saw the fire truck turning onto our street. He ran to the edge of the yard and jumped up and down waiving his arms.
First he had to show them the chart where he colored in how many nights he stayed in his bed. Then they let him "drive" the truck. After that they even got to come in for a minute because Harrison wanted to show them some of his toy fire trucks and give them some cookies.
Harrison and Leo thought that they were the luckiest boys in the world to have a fire truck come to their house. What I failed to do was warn the neighbors that the truck was stopping by for a visit. They all came out to see if we were okay.
