After a lot of sleep issues and through the process of elimination, we ended up at the ear, nose and throat doctor. We were referred to him for snoring, sleep apnea and nose bleeds. He sent us over for x-rays.
Within an hour, the ENT office called to schedule surgery. They said the doctor would also cauterize Leo's nose during the surgery. We didn't tell Leo about the surgery until the night before. He was excited about breathing better and less nose bleeds. Obviously he didn't fully understand everything that was going to happen. They told us he could bring a few comfort items. He chose his blanket, silly monkey and black Spider Man.

He was all smiles when they rolled him back. They gave him gas to knock him out and then put in the IV. His doctor came out and told me how the surgery went when it was over. He said Leo's adenoids were huge and that he probably hadn't been able to breathe much, if any, through his nose. He then told me that usually in kids they only cauterize one nostril, whichever one is worse. Leo's were both so bad that he had to do both of them. Prior to surgery the anesthesiologist told me that four was the worst age for coming out of anesthesia. Boy was she right! Leo was mad at the world and demanding to go home. Eventually he calmed down enough to drink something and they let us go home.
Recovery has been a little rough. I know it will take a while for him to get back to normal but he doesn't. He's frustrated that he can't go and do the things he wants and is tired of being cooped up at home. I know he doesn't feel good but it's hard for him to articulate pain levels. He hasn't had much of an appetite either. But, everyday has been better than the day before and I feel like he is getting back to his old self. I know a lot of people were praying for him and I know it helped. We are so thankful for a skilled doctor, nice nurses, a successful surgery and all those who showed concern for Leo. He even received a care package from his sweet teachers and card from his classmates.
